Ensure all transgenders vote: DC directs officers
Mysuru: Deputy commissioner KV Rajendra on Monday directed officers concerned to ensure that every transgender exercises their franchise without fail in the assembly election. A meeting was held to discuss the confusion about the names of transgenders in the electoral register here. Some of their names are recorded differently in different documents. He said any changes in their names would be rectified only after the elections are over.
“There are 212 transgender in the district and they all should vote. Their names can be changed and registered in the electoral roll by taking the assistance of the district legal service authority,” he said. The DC directed officers of women and child welfare to take responsibility and facilitate them in rectifying their names and assist them.
ZP CEO KM Gayathri said though names of transgender are included in the electoral registry some of them have different names in Aadhaar and hence the confusion.
