Eight nabbed for honour killing of a Dalit in Nalgonda
HYDERABAD: Nalgonda police detained eight persons on charges of `honour killing’ of a 21-year-old Dalit youth, who fell in love with a woman from BC community in the same village. The incident took place under Haliya police limits in Nalgonda district.
According to police, Naveen, who was working as a mechanic in Miryalaguda, fell in love with a woman, also from Anaram in Tripuraram mandal. A few days ago, Naveen attempted suicide and was hospitalised.
Meanwhile, the parents of the girl started searching for suitable matches.
On coming to know of this, Naveen called his friends Anil and Tirumal to Guntipalli village. He asked them to go to the girl’s residence and request her parents to perform her marriage with him.
“Naveen received a call from family members of the woman asked his whereabouts. After Naveen gave his location, nine persons came on bikes holding lethal weapons and attacked Naveen. Anil and Tirumal ran away from the place,” police said.
The miscreants stabbed Naveen with daggers and fled. A passerby noticed Naveen lying in a pool of blood and informed police, who rushed to the place and shifted him to a hospital, where doctors said he was brought dead.
Police registered murder charges against the attackers, who pleaded guilty during interrogation.
Nalgonda SP Apoorva Rao said the police took custody of eight persons in connection with the incident and interrogated them. “We will provide all details once the investigation is completed,” she added.
