‘Didn’t cancel NEET-UG as there was no breach of sanctity, but NTA must stop flip-flop’: SC
The top court has further set a deadline of September 30 for filing of report by panel led by ex-ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to rectify deficiencies in examination system.
NEET 2024 Supreme Court Hearing Updates: Over 23 lakh students appeared for NEET-UG 2024
The Supreme Court today pronounced the detailed judgement giving reasons for trashing petitions demanding the cancellation and re-test of controversy-ridden NEET-UG 2024. The CJI-led bench said it didn’t cancel NEET-UG exam as there was no systematic breach of sanctity but NTA must stop flip-flop.
Further, this Centre-appointed panel headed by ex-ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan will review NTA’s functioning and recommend exam reforms. The top court has set a deadline of September 30 for filing of report by panel to rectify deficiencies in examination system.
The bench said the Radhakrishnan panel should consider framing standard operating procedure for adoption of technological advancements to strengthen the examination system. The apex court further said that the issues which have arisen during the NEET-UG examination should be rectified by the Centre.
Last month, the SC bench delivered an interim verdict answering multiple petitions seeking a re-test of NEET-UG 2024. It said it was clear a leak has taken place in the NEET UG 2024, however, ordering a retest depends on whether the alleged breach was at a systemic level and affected the integrity of the entire process, and whether it was possible to segregate the beneficiaries of the fraud from untainted students.
