Haryana CM pretended to drink Yamuna water: Kejriwal
Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed that Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini pretended to drink Yamuna water and then spat some of it back into the river. He said he (Saini) wants the people of Delhi to drink the same poisonous water. Amid a controversy over his remarks that BJP-ruled Haryana was trying to “poison” the water supplied to Delhi through the Yamuna and commit “genocide”, Kejriwal shared a video of Saini performing aachman on the banks of the Yamuna in Haryana. Kejriwal said in a post, “Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini pretended to drink Yamuna water… and then spat the same water back into the Yamuna. When I said that Yamuna water could be dangerous for the lives of Delhiites due to ammonia pollution, he threatened to file an FIR against me.
Sandeep Dixit invites Kejriwal for open debate
Congress leader and party candidate from New Delhi assembly seat Sandeep Dixit on Wednesday wrote a letter to former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, challenging him for an open debate. Former MP Dixit is challenging Kejriwal on this seat. Parvesh Verma is the candidate from Bharatiya Janata Party. Dixit wrote a letter inviting Kejriwal to come to Jantar Mantar on Friday between 2 pm and 3 pm for a debate. In the letter, Dixit said that ever since the Congress announced his candidature, he has been challenging Kejriwal’s claims about the work he did as Chief Minister and MLA of New Delhi.

Water from Haryana ‘extremely poisonous’ for human health: Kejriwal to Election Commission
Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday responded to the Election Commission’s notice, in which he claimed that the Haryana government was “poisoning” the Yamuna and said that the raw water received from the state is “highly contaminated and extremely poisonous” for human health. In his response, the former Delhi Chief Minister also said that his remarks were made in the context of the “urgent public health crisis” arising over the quality of drinking water in the city. In a 14-page reply to the Election Commission, he said the “alleged statements” attributed to him were made as part of his public duty to highlight the “serious toxicity and contamination” of raw water received from the BJP-ruled state. The Election Commission had on Tuesday issued a notice to Kejriwal following a complaint filed by the BJP in the matter and given him time till 8 pm on Wednesday to respond.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor has succumbed to political interests: CM Atishi
Amid Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal accusing the BJP government in Haryana of poisoning the Yamuna river water and attempting genocide in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday targeted Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and accused him of succumbing to political interests. Saxena, in a letter to Atishi on Tuesday, had objected to Kejriwal’s false and misleading statement and Atishi’s support for it, saying that such statements are likely to cause enmity with the neighboring state of Haryana and pose a threat to national security. At the same time, the Chief Minister, in a letter to the Lieutenant Governor, said, “It is extremely disappointing, but not surprising that instead of resolving the issue of high ammonia levels in Delhi’s water, you have made baseless allegations and fabricated a false story to divert attention from your complete failure to fulfill your responsibilities.”
Election Commission should ensure that derogatory material is not used in elections: High Court
Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that political parties and their candidates do not use any derogatory material during election campaigns. Chief Justice D.K. A bench of Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela passed the direction on a PIL which alleged that spam calls and voice messages were sent to the public from unknown numbers to induce them to vote for a particular political party and bring it to power in exchange for freebies. A spam call is an unsolicited phone call often aimed at cheating, misleading or collecting personal information. The bench disposed of the petition taking note of the action proposed by the ECI on the petitioners’ complaint.
Delhi Police seizes Rs 1.87 crore cash ahead of assembly polls
The Delhi Police has seized over Rs 1.87 crore in cash in three separate operations ahead of the assembly elections in the national capital. An official gave this information on Wednesday. Police said that the Railway Unit, North-West and South-West District Police have collectively seized the amount in separate operations. According to a Delhi Police statement, the seized cash is suspected to be linked to illegal activities and was recovered during routine patrolling and election monitoring. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) KPS Malhotra said that the team of the railway unit seized Rs 32.61 lakh from Sabzi Mandi railway station. In another operation, a team from the North-West district seized Rs 1.50 crore ahead of the assembly elections. In the third action, the South-West police seized Rs 3.98 lakh at a check post. According to the survey data shared by the Delhi Police, from January 7 to January 27, law enforcement agencies have so far seized Rs 7.60 crore in cash.

Tahir Hussain allowed to campaign on custody parole
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted custody parole to Tahir Hussain, a former AAP councillor who is contesting the Delhi Assembly elections on an AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) ticket and accused in the Delhi riots, for campaigning. A three-judge bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Mehta has allowed Hussain to campaign in police custody from January 29 to February 3. In the petition, Hussain had sought permission to contact voters while in custody for campaigning.

What did Kejriwal say?
Actually, yesterday Arvind Kejriwal had made sensational allegations against the BJP government ruling in Haryana. He had said that the Haryana government has released poison in the Yamuna water reaching Delhi. Apart from this, he had also written a letter to the Election Commission, in which he termed it as ‘water terrorism’.
Kejriwal’s statement is wrong and misleading: Water Board
The Water Board responded to the allegations. It said that Arvind Kejriwal’s statement is wrong and misleading. The level of ammonia in the Yamuna naturally increases during the winter season between October and February. Water purification plants of the Water Board are designed to properly purify ammonia up to 1 ppm. Apart from this, purification of ammonia up to 2 to 2.5 ppm is done by mixing high ammonia water with water received from Delhi Sub Branch and Carrier Line Channel.
