Dalits should not vote for SP: Maya

Lucknow/Gorakhpur: BSP chief Mayawati took a swipe at the BJP and Congress on Saturday, saying, “Just like the Congress govt at the Centre, in the BJP govt as well, due to casteist, discriminatory, communal and capitalist thinking, development has not been possible for any section of society, especially for the poor, marginalised, Dalits, adivasis, Muslims and backward classes.”
Addressing a rally in Gorakhpur, she also hit out at SP as “it changed names of institutes and districts BSP govts had built and named after Dalit icons and great men.” “It shows their feelings towards Dalit icons and saints. In such a case, will you vote for SP? I don’t think you will,” she said.
She said that BSP showed extreme respect towards Dalit seers and leaders, like Jyotiba Phule, Narayana Guru, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Kanshiram and others. “But this was not liked by the opposition parties, like SP,” she said. “Moreover, SP scrapped reservations in promotion for SCs and STs. The reservation quota for SCs, STs and OBCs in govt jobs has been pending for years,” she said.
Also, because of BJP and RSS, development and progress of Muslims and other religious minority communities have come to a halt. Under the BJP govt, poverty, inflation and unemployment have been steadily increasing. Corruption is still prevalent, she said. It seems that like Congress, BJP has also mostly misused the various investigation agencies of the Centre, she said.
“Under the BJP govt, the country’s farming community has been distressed and troubled. Whereas BSP paid full attention to the rights of farmers”, she said. In her rally, she asked voters to stop opposition parties from forming a govt at the Centre. She sought votes for BSP candidates Jawed Simnani in Gorakhpur, Shubh Narayan in Kushinagar, Sandesh Yadav in Deoria, Ramsamujh in Bansgaon (SC) and Mod Mausame Alam in Maharajganj.
