Dalits hand over demand letter to Governor
Jalandhar, Members of various Dalit organisations have submitted a demand letter to the Governor demanding that the proposed demolition of various buildings associated with Guru Ravidas should be stopped.
The buildings include temples of Sri Guru Ravidas at Vikas Moli and Sector 58 in Chandigarh along with seven temples of Lord Valmiki at Chandigarh. The Governor handed over the letter to the DC, Chandigarh.
Other demands of the members include building of a temple dedicated to Sri Guru Ravidas at Tughlaqabad in Delhi and naming of the Adampur airport after Sri Guru Ravidas as per the promise of PM Narendra Modi at Hoshiarpur; SC reservation as per population in the state; revision of private hospital rates on a par with government hospitals; deputations of senior police personnel in 23 districts as per reservation; renaming of various chowks after saints of the community; free bus service for devotees to Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh Tap Sthan and Talhan Sahib and free college and judicial courses for girls at Talhan Sahib and the state DGP from the SC community.
Members of the delegation included Sant Kulwant Ram from the Guru Ravidas Sadhu Sampradai Society, Punjab; Baba Kulwant Singh from Tap Sthan Shri Khuralgarh Sahib; Des Raj from Chandigarh and Jassi Talhan from the Shri Guru Ravidas Tiger Force.
