Dalits are still barred from entering many temples: G Parameshwara
Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara urged society to develop consciousness and allow Dalits to enter temples. Parameshwara, who is a Dalit, was responding to a question posed by reporters about the incident in Hanakere in Mandya district where tensions flared after Dalits entered a temple for the first time.
“Dalits are not allowed to enter many temples in the state. God is the same for everyone, isn’t he? Everyone should get an opportunity,” he said. Reacting to a Veerashaiva monastery seer’s remark that children should be given swords instead of pens, Parameshwara said: “We bow at his feet because he is expected to take everyone along and be righteous.” He said legal action would be taken against the seer.
