Dalit youths install boards criticising Congress’ inaction on Ambedkar statue
Mysuru: A group of Dalits youths installed boards criticising Congress leaders of Nagralle village, which is part of Varuna assembly segment represented by chief minister Siddaramaiah, as incapable on Tuesday.
The boards were placed at four locations, and some were tied to electricity poles. The boards also announced that Congress functionaries are barred from entering Nagralle village.
Prior to the assembly elections, chief minister Siddaramaiah and HC Mahadevappa assured the Dalit community about installing an Ambedkar statue in the village.
The Dalit youths, who supported Siddaramaiah and Mahadevappa during elections, are now upset as the CM’s close associate Kumar indicated only Rs 3 lakh would be provided and no additional funds would be given. This development disappointed the youths, who responded with a distinctive form of protest by putting up boards to express their dissatisfaction.
Earlier, for the statue, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah conducted a groundbreaking ceremony before the Lok Sabha election, and Rs 3 lakh was allocated for the foundation work. The project requires an additional Rs 20 lakh for the work to be completed.
BJ Vijaykumar, president of Mysuru district Congress, said that he suspected opposition leaders are involved trying to bring a bad name to Congress. “There is no such discontent among the youths regarding the matter in the village. All the boards have been removed,” he said.
