New Delhi: An argument during a cricket match near Lucknow’s Indira Nagar police station turned violent when a group of youths beat up an 18-year-old Dalit and allegedly urinated on his face.

The key accused was identified as Fardeen and the police booked him and his 25-30 accomplices under sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (offence), 323 (causing hurt) and 147 of the IPC. The case was registered under (Unrest). The Act on Damages and Professional Work was also registered against the defendant.
Rawat, a resident of Chandan village in Indiranagar, said in his FIR that his 18-year-old son Lucky, who works as an air conditioner mechanic, had gone to play cricket with his friends near Khurramnagar.
He said: ‘During their match someone hit a big throw and the ball landed where some other lads were playing. When Lucky went there to get the ball, the youngsters in the group refused to give him the ball, after which a fight broke out and my son tried to run away from the place. They caught him and started beating him badly. He also made casteist comments against him.”
Rawat added that his son somehow managed to escape and came home but did not tell him about the incident. On the same day, Lucky was again stopped by some youths and beaten again.
Rawat added: ‘This time he told us the whole incident. We were talking about it when the same group came there again and tried to drag my son out of the house. But the neighbors helped us, as a result of which the miscreants had to flee the place.”
The complainant told the police that the next day, his son went to pick up his sister from school, when he was again stopped by miscreants on the way. “They beat him until he fell unconscious,” Rawat said. He also urinated on his face. He’s been in shock ever since.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police North Zone Qasim Abidi said that the matter is being investigated and action will be taken against the miscreants.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) North Abhijeet R. Shankar said, “Many of the allegations leveled by the family are based on CCTV footage, eyewitnesses and other evidence.” They cannot be verified. An investigation is underway and action will be taken based on the evidence.”
