Dalit youth beaten to death for dancing in program
It is believed that it is very difficult to keep up with famous scientists because they achieve success after years of research, effort and long training. In such a situation, sometimes they become arrogant but in India, some class of people consider themselves better than others simply because they see the society on the basis of being born in a particular family/caste. However, Mahatma Gandhi and other great men made tireless efforts to eradicate untouchability and caste-based discrimination. Our Constitution also considers everyone equal but even after 77 years of independence, discrimination against the Dalit community continues in many places in the country and even their participation in normal entertainment activities hurts some people.
On May 1, in Kopardi village of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra, a Hindu youth named ‘Vitthal’ alias ‘Nitin Kantilal Shinde’, belonging to the Mahar Dalit community, went to attend the folk dance program ‘Tamasha’ and started dancing along with the artists there. Seeing this, three so-called upper caste people present there took Vitthal to a cremation ground, made him remove his clothes and beat him badly. Since they had also snatched Vitthal’s mobile phone, he could not even call anyone for help. Vitthal was so hurt by this incident that he committed suicide after coming home.
The above incident is a clear proof of the fact that even today in our country, a section of the so-called upper caste people do not tolerate the progress of Dalits. There is always talk of reservation and equality in the country, but until our mentality improves, these things will remain just talk. What kind of mentality is this to believe in the upper class of the society that anyone weaker than you or a Dalit should be caught and beaten. Behaving like this and considering someone bigger or smaller on the basis of social status or birth is never indicative of correct ideology. Isn’t it time to end this narrow minded display?
Basically, this is the problem of inferiority complex prevalent among the people who consider themselves better than others and others inferior to them, whereas in today’s era, looking at everyone with equality is the biggest need of the time. As long as people do not have satisfaction, peace and stability in their minds, they will continue to make the mistake of considering others as inferior to them and will be able to see others as their equal only after gaining confidence within themselves. Economic freedom is a matter of later, but before that everyone will have to be taught to have equality and respect for every human being. This education will have to be given not only in schools but also in the society and only then such incidents will be stopped.
