Dalit woman shot, 3 hurt in Madhya Pradesh caste attack
INDORE: A Dalit woman was shot dead, and three members of her family, including her husband, grievously injured in an attack by upper caste men in Friday. SP Abhishek Anand said the attack seems to have been triggered by a dispute over tying cattle on govt land.
Around 9.30am Friday, 20-odd people, armed with firearms, swords, and sticks, arrived in five vehicles and threatened the Dalit family not to use the land to tether cows
Eyewitnesses told cops that the mob began firing at the Dalits. Suganabai died on the spot. Her husband was also shot and has been referred to Mandsaur district hospital. Two other victims are being treated at a hospital in nearby Garoth.
Balram and his son Sukhdev accused Narendra Singh and his associates of orchestrating the attack. Enraged Dalit community members staged aprotest, placing Suganabai’s body on the road and demanding arrest of the attackers.
