Dalit senior citizen assaulted in Belthangady for seeking shelter near shop, case filed.
Kokkada: A 67-year-old Dalit elder, Mancha Mogera, was brutally assaulted by a shopkeeper in Kokkada, Belthangady. The incident occurred when Mogera, seeking shelter from heavy rain, asked to rest near the shop.
The accused, identified as Ramanna Gowda, responded with casteist slurs and attacked Mogera with a wooden pole.
According to the complaint lodged at Dharmasthala police station, Mogera was verbally abused before being struck on the head and back with a tree branch by Gowda. The victim was subsequently rushed to Kokkada Government Hospital for first aid and later transferred to Belthangady Government Hospital for further medical treatment due to the injuries he sustained.
The Dharmasthala police have recorded Mogera’s statement and have launched an investigation into the incident.
