Dalit refused to cut hair in Karnataka, shop surrounded
Bengaluru Rural (Karnataka): Untouchability still continues in Kadanur village of Doddaballapur taluk of Karnataka. Barbers are refused to cut the hair of Dalits. The leaders of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, along with officials of the Social Welfare Department, laid siege to the cutting shop here against untouchability and ended this unfair practice by getting hair cut.
It is alleged that the hairdresser in Kadanur village refused to cut the hair of Dalits. In this background, the leaders of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti surrounded the shop.
On this occasion, Ramu Neelaghatta, president of the taluk unit of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, said, ‘We have ended this inhuman practice by laying siege to the cutting shop and symbolically cutting the hair of our Dalit leaders. Even though we are living in the 21st century, it is ironic that this untouchability is still alive among us. Forgetting humanity, we live in a feeling of superiority and inferiority. The stupidity that the society is fostering has to be changed. Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti will always fight against such practices.
MP Gangadhar, district convenor of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, said, ‘When we visited the local Dalit houses, we realized the problem here. It is a matter of shame that caste discrimination is still alive in the society. Aren’t we humans like everyone else? Why is this attitude? Has the talk of equality talked about on the platforms of the program ended here? Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s wishes were limited to words only? This attitude has to be stopped. Our struggle is continuous.
