Dalit, OBC, Minority, and Adivasi Rally in Delhi: Leaders Call for Unity to Protect Constitution and Reservation
New Delhi: Thousands gathered at Ramlila Maidan today for a massive rally organized by the Dalit, OBC, Minorities, and Adivasi (DOMA) Parisangh. The event, marked by impassioned speeches from prominent leaders, aimed to highlight the issues faced by marginalized communities and to call for collective action to protect constitutional rights, demand a caste census, and advocate for an increase in the reservation limit from 50%.
The rally was addressed by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with other leaders from DOMA Parisangh and allied organizations.
Dr. Udit Raj, National Chairman of DOMA Parisangh, criticized casteist forces for pitting marginalized groups against each other. “The population of Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis together is 85%. Yet casteist and Manuvadi forces keep them divided. Today, we announce from Ramlila Maidan that those who practice ‘80:20’ politics will be answered with ‘15:85,’” he declared
Dr. Raj raised critical issues such as the underrepresentation of marginalized communities in key positions. “Out of 48 central universities, there are hardly any Dalit, OBC, or tribal Vice Chancellors. Lakhs of central government posts lie vacant, and lateral entry recruitment bypasses reservation policies,” he said. He also highlighted the plight of Dalit women, noting that six are raped daily, and questioned why Muslims are often scapegoated for systemic issues when they have historically supported reservation and social justice initiatives.
Demand for Caste Census and Action Against Inequalities
Veteran OBC leader Hanumanth Rao stressed the importance of the caste census and urged civil society to mobilize for their rights. “We will campaign for the caste census across the country. It is time for the OBC community to leave those who oppose it,” Rao said, reflecting on his decades of political experience.
Advocate Shahid Ali, National General Secretary of DOMA Parisangh, spoke about the misuse of Waqf properties and called for the withdrawal of the proposed Waqf Bill. “Now that Dalits and tribals are with us, we will ensure this bill does not pass,” he asserted.
Renowned leader Ramlu Nayak (former MLC) said that tribals are called forest dwellers. RSS, through Ekal Vidyalaya, keeps filling hatred against Muslims in the hearts and minds of tribals, whereas Muslims never oppose reservation for tribals. The then Chief Minister Hemant Soren was the only Chief Minister from the tribal community in the country, but he was sent to jail, even though he was not at fault. We pledge that now Dalits, OBCs and Muslims will work together to save the Constitution.
The rally saw participation from leaders like former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal Upendra Yadav and several Indian MPs, MLAs, and activists. Notable attendees included MP Tariq Anwar, Gurdeep Sappal, and Delhi Congress in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin.
The rally concluded with a call for unity among Dalits, OBCs, minorities, and tribals to safeguard the Constitution, push for policy changes, and protect reservation rights. Prof. Ravi Mahindra and National Coordinator Satish Kumar Sansi conducted the proceedings.
The DOMA Parisangh’s rally was a powerful demonstration of solidarity and resolve to address the systemic issues plaguing marginalized communities in India.
