Dalit nurse, 20, raped by doctor at UP hospital, ‘ward boy, another carer helped’
BAREILLY: A 20-year-old nurse, who was on night duty at a private hospital in Moradabad, was raped by a doctor who runs the facility and “helped” by a ward boy and another nurse in the crime, police said. The survivor, a Dalit, is a resident of a village under Dilari limits and works at the hospital in Thakurdwara.
Additional SP (Moradabad), Sandeep Kumar Meena, said, “Dr Mohd Shahnawaz raped a female staff in the hospital, as per the complaint. Shahnawaz and two others were charged under BNS sections 61-2 (criminal conspiracy), 64 (rape), 351-2 (threatening another by any means) and 127-2 (wrongful confinement) along with the SC/ST Act. All three accused were arrested on Monday and the hospital was sealed to collect evidence. Probe is on and no one will be spared.”
The woman will be sent for medical examination and her statement will be recorded before the magistrate soon, police added.
In her complaint, the survivor alleged she was on night duty on Saturday when the crime took place. She claimed when ward boy Junaid (goes by first name) asked her to go to the cabin of Shanawaz, she refused. Later, another nurse took her to the cabin by force and locked her there. She said the doctor asked her to remain quiet after the assault in the cabin and even offered her money.

The survivor, in the complaint, also said she was not allowed to leave the hospital premises until Sunday morning. After returning home, she narrated her ordeal to her family and later went to a police station with her father to file a complaint.
A police team was deployed at the hospital on Monday as several right-wing activists demanded the “health facility be demolished”.
