Dalit Minor Allegedly Beaten, Forced to Drink Urine in Police Custody in Rajasthan’s Sikar Village

Jaipur- A distressing case of police brutality has emerged from Sikar district in Rajasthan, where a 13-year-old Dalit boy was allegedly detained, beaten, and forced to drink urine by Khandela policemen.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with the minor’s family and local community staging a protest outside the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Sikar, demanding stringent action against the accused cops.

According to Balbir Bharatiya, a local resident and family representative, Khandela police forcibly took the minor boy into custody on the night of October 21 on allegations of theft. The boy was detained in the police cell, where officers allegedly subjected him to severe physical abuse. The family asserts that officers not only beat the minor but also degraded him by forcing him to drink urine.

The family claims that when they attempted to bring the boy home, Khandela Station Officer Mangilal and ASI Puranmal demanded a bribe of ?50,000 for his release, disregarding the minor’s condition.

The next day, the minor’s 70-year-old grandfather visited the station to plead for his grandson’s release. Upon arrival, he witnessed the police officers beating the boy. When he intervened, asking why his grandson was being assaulted, the officers allegedly turned violent on him as well. In the altercation, the elderly man sustained a fractured thumb before being forced out of the station.

Family’s Demand for Justice and Immediate Action

The boy’s family, along with members of the Dalit community, held a protest outside the SP office, demanding accountability and justice. They submitted a formal memorandum urging the authorities to register a case against Station Officer Mangilal, ASI Puranmal, and two other officers under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

In addition, the family accused the officers of committing “unnatural acts” with the boy, claiming he endured physical and psychological abuse that has left him deeply traumatized. According to family members, the minor is now severely frightened, in immense pain, and his legs have swollen due to the assault.

The family initially lodged a written complaint with the SP on October 22, hoping for prompt action against the officers involved. Since then, they have continued to press for the cops’ immediate suspension and criminal charges.

Responding to the allegations, Sikar Superintendent of Police Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav stated that a delegation representing the family met with him on Monday to discuss the case. He personally spoke with the minor and assured the family of a thorough investigation. The case has been assigned to Circle Officer (CO) of Ringas, who has been instructed to conduct a detailed investigation within 7 days and submit a comprehensive report.

The SP’s assurance, however, has done little to assuage public anger. Community members continue to call for the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the officers involved, condemning the incident as a severe violation of the child’s rights and dignity.
