Family alleges police torture in custody
Major violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad over the alleged death of a 25-year-old Dalit boy in police custody.
According to the details, the victim was arrested on June 19, on charges of theft. The development came after the police recovered a two-wheeler from his custody.
The following day, the man, identified as Akash, reportedly fell ill in police custody and was given primary treatment.
As his condition deteriorated, on June 21, Akash was admitted to a hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased alleged he was torched by the police while in custody.
They attacked the team of police and set fire to many vehicles as soon as Akash’s body was brought to his home.
Commenting on the incident, the police said Akash’s postmortem was performed and that the report and other details will be shared with the media soon.
An official said a police team used force to maintain peace and order in the area.
