Dalit man stabbed to death in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi over inter-faith relationship, accused held
Two men have been arrested for the alleged murder of 25-year-old Vijay Kamble over his relationship with a woman of a different faith.
A 25-year-old Dalit man was allegedly murdered in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district over his romantic relationship with a woman of a different faith. Two people have been arrested in the case.
The deceased, identified as Vijay Kamble, was a resident of Bheema Nagar Layout in Waditown of Kalaburagi (also known as Gulbarga).
Preliminary reports by police indicate that the woman’s family was against their relationship.
Kalaburagi SP Isha Pant said two accused, identified as Shahuddin and Nawaz, have been arrested in connection with Vijay’s murder. The woman’s family members are also being questioned.
WOMAN’S BROTHER HAD THREATENED VIJAY
Speaking to India Today, Vijay’s mother alleged that his girlfriend’s brother had threatened to cut off his head if he did not break off the relationship.
Asked about the events leading up to Vijay’s death, his mother said he left the house after receiving a phone call. “I was wondering who he was talking to. After that, we didn’t hear from him. I got a call saying he was hit. I ran to him. They had stabbed him and hit him on the head,” she said.
Brother Raghavendra said the deadly attack on Vijay was completely unanticipated, and had left him in shock and disbelief. He, too, cast blame on the woman’s brother.
“The girl’s brother had created a problem once. We had compromised back then. Don’t know what happened now. He [Vijay] wasn’t telling us anything. The girl was Muslim, we are Dalits. Once, we had compromised. This was sudden and I’m in shock,” said Raghavendra.
