Dalit man killed in Thakkarbapanagar, three arrested
Ahmedabad: A 27-year-old man belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community died on Friday, two days after he was beaten by three men over an old dispute near his house in the Thakkarbapanagar area of the city.
According to a complaint filed with Krishnanagar police, the deceased has been identified as Akash Diwakar, a resident of Pratapbhai chawl. Akash’s elder brother Vishal filed an FIR on Wednesday, naming Sonu Tomar, 32, Shekhar Tomar, 24, and Yogesh Mathur, 26, all residents of Kevdaji Chawl, as the assailants.
The FIR stated that Sonu, Shekhar and Mathur beat Akash with sticks till he fainted and then stabbed him multiple times.
Inspector Abhishek Dhavan of Krishnanagar police said Akash was rushed to a hospital where he died on Friday.
Dhavan said that both the deceased and the accused men used to be friends. “They began fighting over petty disputes at first. Gradually, the accused persons began harassing Akash and hurling casteist abuses at him. On the night of Nov 19, the accused men attacked Akash when he objected to their repeated harassment,” said the inspector.
Dhavan said that the accused men will face murder charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with charges under the Gujarat police act.
In the past fortnight, Ahmedabad reported six murders: two in Bopal and one each in Nehrunagar, Kagdapith, Chandkheda, and Thakkarbapanagar.
