Dalit girl gang-raped in Sambhal, two arrested
BAREILLY: A 17-year-old Dalit girl from UP’s Moradabad was allegedly raped by two men in Hazratnagar Garhi area on Thursday evening. The survivor, who was going to meet her relatives, had reached Sambhal by bus and at the terminal two men — Mohd Tassavar and Tahir — offered her help to reach her kins’ place, situated in a remote area.
The girl took lift on their bike and they took her to a secluded place and gang-raped her. After the assault, the accused left her near her uncle’s house, threatened her to remain quiet and fled. The girl after reaching home narrated her ordeal to her uncle who took her to a police station and lodged a complaint.
Additional SP, Shirish Chandra, said, “We have registered an FIR under section 376-D (gang rape) of IPC along with Pocso and the SC/ST acts. The accused have been arrested and sent to jail on Friday. We’ve also recorded the survivor’s statement and sent her for a medical examination.”
Notably, a 15-year-old school girl, who was on her running drill, was forcefully taken to a secluded place and raped, in Moradabad on May 24. The survivor is a student of class XII and is preparing for competitive exams. Police booked the accused under IPC section 376 (rape) and the Pocso Act and sent him to jail on Friday.
