Dalit family stopped from performing last rites in crematorium built on government land in Ratlam – Ratlam Dalit family complaint
Preventing a Dalit family from performing last rites in Ratlam district proved costly for a person. On receiving the complaint, the police arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
Ratlam. Even after 78 years of independence, the poison of untouchability is present in the society, which is also becoming an obstacle in the last rites of Dalits and oppressed class. One such case has come to light in Kumhari village of Ratlam district. Here, after the death of a woman, a Dalit family who had come to perform the last rites in the government crematorium was stopped by a domineering person of the village itself. The victim family had to go and perform the last rites of the woman at another place. On the complaint of the victims, Asavati police registered a case against Nagu Singh father Dhul Singh and arrested the accused.
Incident of 25 August in Kumhari village
In fact, an elderly woman Sugan Bai died on 25 August in Kumhari village of Ringnod police station area. The people of the Suryavanshi family reached the government crematorium of the village to perform the last rites of the woman. But the village’s strong man Nagu Singh reached there and stopped the last rites. He counseled other people of the village. Despite this, the last rites were not allowed to be performed. After which the family took the body to another place and performed the last rites.
Case registered under several sections, accused sent to jail
After this, the victim’s family lodged a complaint against the accused at Asavati police station. Asavati police registered a case under section 301 BNS 3(1)(za)(A) SC ST Act in this case and arrested the accused and sent him to jail. In this case, Ratlam police issued a press note and gave information about the action taken against the accused and the arrest. Let us tell you that in modern India, evil practices like untouchability and casteism still exist, due to which people have to suffer.
