Dalit employee taken hostage and beaten in Gaurela: Assistant engineer of electricity department and her husband accused, removed from work without notice

A case has come to light of Dileshwari Suryavani, a female assistant engineer working in the electricity department in Gaurela, along with her husband Hitesh Suryavani, taking a Dalit class employee hostage and beating him. The employee’s hand was broken in the fight. Gaurela police station has registered a report under sections of the Atrocity Act and IPC and is investigating the matter.
Actually, the incident happened on 20th December. Sunil Kumar Kaushik, a daily wage Dalit class employee, has told that he was working as a computer operator in the electricity department for the last 10 years. On December 13, Assistant Engineer Dileshwari Suryavani and Contractor Supervisor Virendra Vastrakar removed Sunil from work without any reason and without giving any notice.

Sunil had complained about this to the state government. Angered by this, the assistant engineer took Sunil in the car on the pretext of work and took him to Sharma Saw Mill in Samta Nagar, where he abused and beat him on caste basis. Sunil told that the assistant engineer’s husband hit him on the thigh, back, arms and legs with a wooden stick and broke his left hand.

The victim employee told that, after the incident, the assistant engineer and her husband were held hostage and forced to write a statement that this entire work was done by me by taking 100-200 rupees by getting the SAP tampered by RK Verma. After this, the husband of the lady assistant engineer threatened to kill her if she filed an FIR in the police station.

The assistant engineer’s husband threatened to kill him if she complained and described former Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu as his uncle and father-in-law. Said that all the officers of Police Department, Electricity Department from division level to Raipur General Manager are in my pocket. After this, I was taken to the district hospital where I got my X-ray done and my hand plastered.
