Dalit driver of loader mowed down by SUV
LUCKNOW: A dalit loader driver was killed while two of his brothers were critically injured following an incident of road rage in Aliganj in the wee hours of Sunday, police said.
They said loader driver Deepu Rawat, 40, of Ahibaranpur in Aliganj was returning from Azamgarh after delivering some goods.
“On reaching Madeyganj slope area around 3 am on Sunday, he parked his loader at a roadside shop for tea. Around the same time, two youths– Rishabh Srivastava and Anuj Gupta– also reached there on a bike and car and wanted to park their vehicles in front of the shop. They asked Deepu to shift his loader. But Deepu asked them to park their vehicles at some other place. This led to an argument. Other customers intervened, and the matter was resolved,” said SHO Aliganj, NK Upadhyay.
However, the youths followed Deepu to his house at around 3.30 am, the official said.
“They again picked up a fight with Deepu and claimed that he spoke rudely with them at the shop. Hearing the commotion, Deepu’s brothers Rakesh and Mukesh came out and opposed the youths who by then started slapping Deepu. Locals somehow managed to resolve the issue,” said Upadhyay.
A few hours later, the youths again turned up at Deepu’s house with a large group and assaulted him.
“One of their aides Sahil Sonkar, who was riding an SUV, ran it over Deepu and his brothers. They were rushed to a hospital where Deepu was declared brought dead while his brothers are in critical state,” said the SHO.
DCP, North Qasim Abidi said a case of murder, attempted murder and rioting was registered and the accused have been arrested.
