Dalit daughter becomes topper, scores 400 out of 500 in Tamil Nadu’s 10th board
Look at this picture accompanying the news. This smiling face scorched in the heat is that of D. Kavia Jani, daughter of Dalit community. Kaaviya has become the topper in the Tamil Nadu State Board 10th results declared on 10 May 2024 by scoring 499 marks out of 500. This success of Kaaviya is special because she has achieved this success in a situation when most people’s dreams die down.
Kaaviya’s father D. Dharmaraj is a welder, doing contract welding work in Coimbatore, while mother D. Vasanthi works in a grocery shop. Together they are able to earn Rs 13 thousand per month. But he did not let his daughter’s education stop. But if the parents were adamant on educating their daughter, then daughter Kavia also had a passion for studies. She used to travel 15 kilometers by public transport every day to reach school. The results show that the hard work of all three has paid off and the result is visible.
Behind this success of Kaavia has been both the passion and struggle of her parents. Despite financial difficulties, he did not let the education of his two daughters, topper Kavia and her sister Akshya, stop.
Kaaviya’s dream is to become an IAS officer. In fact, this family hails from Peraiyur village in Ramanathapuram district near Kamuthi in Tamil Nadu state, where people hesitate in sending girls to school after a certain age. This area has still not been able to completely escape from the clutches of child marriage. These social evils shook Kaaviya’s mind to the core. Kavia’s mother told that by becoming a big officer she can remove all the social evils. And when Kaaviya was in the third class, she dreamed of becoming an IAS officer, so that she could improve the society.
Encouraged by the 10th results, Kavia has set out on the path to fulfill her dream of becoming an IAS. She has chosen subjects like Commerce and History for 12th. Kaaviya’s parents hope that their daughter’s dream will come true. He has also appealed to the Tamil Nadu government for help in his daughter’s education. It remains to be seen what help K. Stalin’s government provides.
One more thing, daughters like Kavia should be role models of Dalit society. Certainly, great leaders like Jyotiba Phule, Savitri Bai Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar imagined the new generation to be like this. Dalit Dastak congratulates Kaaviya and best wishes for her dreams.
