Dalit beaten up by Muslim mob in Surat for celebrating India’s victory
India defeated Pakistan badly in the Asia Cup match held on 11 September 2023. People everywhere were immersed in celebration of Team India’s victory. A Dalit youth living in Surat, Gujarat also celebrated by bursting crackers. On this the Muslim youth got enraged and attacked him with bat and stump and injured him.

According to media reports, the incident took place in Syedpura Market area of ??Surat. After the end of the India-Pakistan match, at around 11 pm, a Dalit youth was bursting crackers while celebrating. Meanwhile, some Muslim youth came there and started making caste based remarks and abusing and asking the reason for bursting crackers. Within no time a crowd of Muslim youth gathered there.
After this the crowd started beating him mercilessly with bats and stumps. After being badly injured, the young man somehow ran away to his home, but the crowd of Islamists chased him and reached his house to kill him. After reaching there the mob vandalized his house. On receiving the information, Lalgate police reached the spot.
On the complaint of the victim youth, the police have registered a case against the accused for assault and caste based abuses. Giving information about this, the police said that the entire incident has been captured in CCTV. However, all the Muslim youth who attacked the Dalit youth fled from the spot. The police have said that everyone will be identified and arrested soon.
At the same time, Muslims have also filed a complaint against the Hindu youth. Shahrukh Aftab Mirza, a resident of Syedpura, lodged a complaint saying that the children were playing cricket on the road. Therefore he had asked Hindu youth not to burst firecrackers. During this time, the Hindu youth and his two friends beat him up.
The victim Hindu youth claims that he tries to help his family financially by driving. This is the third attack on him in the last 15 years. She said that she was attacked in the year 2021 also, but the police had not registered her complaint in this case. Under pressure from the court, the police had to register an FIR.
