Dalit activist Deekaiah’s body exhumed suspecting unnatural death
Belthangady: The mortal remains of Dalit activist Late P Deekaiah, a resident of Padmunja of Kaniyur village, has been exhumed on Monday and sent to post-mortem.
The body was exhumed based on the complaint filed at Belthangady Police Station by Deekaiah’s brother-in-law Padmanabh, who suspected that the death was unnatural.
Reportedly, on July 6, Deekaiah is said to have fallen in his residence due to which he had suffered a major head injury. He was rushed to KMC Hospital, Manipal. Reports suggest that he had internal bleeding in his brain for which he was availing treatment. On July 8, he died as he did not respond to the treatment.
On July 9, people paid their last respect after which, the mortal remains were buried in his hometown.
Later, it was understood that during the time of falling, Deekaiah had suffered a big blow on his head.
Based on the complaint, on Monday (July 18) his body was exhumed in the presence of Belthangady Tahsildar Pruthvi Sanikam, Belthangady Sub Inspector Nandakumar, and officials from the forensic department.
