If Congress leaders are to be believed, this amendment in the party constitution is the product of the ‘Chintan Shivir’ held in Udaipur in May last year. In one of the proposals made in this camp, the party will make these provisions by amending 26 articles and 32 rules. If this proposed amendment is passed in the plenary session, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will become life members of the CWC.

Ramesh said that keeping these two factors in mind, the consensus view of the Steering Committee was that it was time to give the Congress President the right to nominate members to the Congress Working Committee.
However, sources said that Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Digvijaya Singh and Ajay Maken pitched for the CWC polls but eventually aligned with the majority view. Sources said the G-23 members and their supporters in the group spoke in favor of the election.
