CPM delegation reached Police Headquarters to take action against the accused of Dalit harassment in Chamoli district
Delegation of Marxist Communist Party reached Police Headquarters in Dehradun and met Additional Director General of Police (Crime and Law and Order) AP Anshuman to demand strict action against the accused and arrest of the accused in the case of Dalit harassment in Subhai village of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. On this occasion, demand was also made to provide security to the victim’s family.
This is the case
According to the delegation, in Chamoli district, in Subhai Chachdi village of Joshimath, angry with the Dalit youth for not playing the drum, the village bullies had imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on him. Along with this, water supply of all Dalit families was cut off. They demanded that the culprits be arrested and sent to jail. Along with this, demand was made to provide security to the victim’s family.
According to the delegation, Baisakhi fair was to be organized in the area. In this, Pushkar Lal, a youth of Scheduled Caste of the village, was given the responsibility of playing the drum. He had to play the drum the whole night, but due to ill health, he could play the drum for only two hours. On this, the upper caste bullies and people with Manuvadi ideology held a panchayat and sentenced the dhol player to a fine of five thousand rupees. Despite paying this fine, all the scheduled caste families including Pushkar Lal and his family were boycotted. Also, their water facilities were stopped. This is a serious crime. No proper action has been taken against the people with Manuvadi ideology till now.
In the memorandum given to the ADD, the party said that the honourable Supreme Court has punished the culprits of the mass massacre of Kafilta Dalits decades ago. The delegation told that dozens of such incidents have happened in our state. Last year in Purola, the minority community was forced to leave Purola by people with Hinduvadi mindset. The incident of Vanfulpura in Haldwani has also tarnished the image of our state Uttarakhand across the country. The incidents happening one after another in our state show that these anti-social elements are getting protection from the government.
The memorandum said that recently in Nawada Dehradun, anti-social elements vandalized the house of a Christian family in the name of conversion. The police not arresting these elements shows the pressure of the government on the police administration. A few days ago, the incident of gang rape of a Dalit woman by goons in Haridwar and the non-arrest of those involved in the murder is also condemnable.
The party said in the memorandum that the arrest of the culprits of the Joshimath incident is necessary to punish them so that such incidents do not recur in the state. It was demanded that the victim families be given proper justice. Along with the security of their lives and property, peace should be established in the area. The delegation included CPI(M) state secretary Rajendra Singh Negi, Surendra Singh Sajwan, Lekhraj, Manmohan Rautela.
