Congress seeks probe into attack on Kullu Dalit couple
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Kuldeep Rathore today demanded a judicial inquiry into the fatal attack on a Dalit couple in Kullu district.
Addressing a press conference here, Rathore alleged that atrocities were being inflicted on people belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) under the BJP rule. “Instead of initiating action against the culprits, who attacked the couple, an attempt is being made to hush up the case,” he alleged.
Rathore said such incidents had created fear and a feeling of insecurity among people belonging to the category. “While Paras Ram, a former panchayat pradhan and ex-servicemen had died, his wife is struggling for life in a hospital,” said Rathore.
The Congress chief said the incident had shamed the state but the police had yet to act on the complaint filed against those involved in the crime.
“We will take legal recourse and also meet the Governor,” he said.
Dhani Ram Shandil, former minister and sitting MLA from Solan, too condemned the attack. He threatened that if the culprits were not booked, the Congress would knock at the doors of the Dalit commission.
Other Congress leaders, including Rampur MLA Nand Lal and former MLAs Gangu Ram Musafir, Kuldeep Kumar and Biru Ram Kishore, too condemned the attack.
