Congress fumes as party posters removed ahead of Rahul visit
Patna: Ahead of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Patna on Jan 18, the district administration removed several posters put up by the party, citing their “illegal” installation. The action triggered strong protests from the Congress, which accused the state govt of political vendetta.
The posters were part of the Congress’s preparations for Gandhi’s visit, during which he is expected to hold two meetings, including one with civil society members on “safeguarding the Constitution.” Party workers had flooded the city with posters to generate awareness.
“Only those posters that were installed at places designated for govt hoardings and put up illegally were removed,” said Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) PRO Shweta Bhaskar.
Condemning the action, Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathorre said, “We installed these posters to raise awareness about the Constitution, but the Nitish Kumar govt removed them with malicious intent. This sets a wrong precedent and tarnishes Bihar’s image nationally.”
Rathorre accused the state govt of being intimidated by Gandhi’s growing popularity. “Such disrespect towards the Constitution has never been seen elsewhere in the country. The Bihar govt’s actions show its political vendetta,” he said in a press statement.
