Cong to remove inactive office bearers from positions in Rajasthan

Jaipur: In a bid to strengthen itself in Rajasthan, Congress Sunday decided to replace its inactive office bearers, those who miss three consecutive meetings without any valid reason, with active party workers.
A meeting of the extended executive of the state Congress headed by state president Govind Singh Dotasra took a number of decisions viewed as direct results of party MP and former national president Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in Ahmedabad that some functionaries of Gujarat Congress are in league with BJP and that the party needs to filter them out.
AICC’s Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who was part of the meeting in Jaipur, said “disinterested workers” would be forthwith removed from positions in the party. Claiming that Rajasthan has the strongest Congress organisation in the country, he said all senior Congress leaders will participate in block committee meetings and personally review activities without prior notice.
The meeting was attended, among others, by LoP Tikaram Jully, AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot and former Speaker CP Joshi. Former CM Ashok Gehlot could not attend it.
“Rahul Gandhi directed Gujarat unit (of Congress) to show the door to leaders collaborating with other parties. I am also clearly saying that those working with other parties will not remain Congress members. No one is above the party, regardless of their stature, and attendance at meetings is mandatory,” said Randhawa before the state executive meeting started. He asked co-in-charges and district presidents in Rajasthan Congress to prepare a report on functionaries who do not attend meetings and send it to RPCC.
In the meeting, Dotasra and Randhawa issued instructions on the selection of eligible workers to fill vacant positions from booth to district levels. Dotasra proposed amendments to the organisational structure to streamline and enhance activities, suggesting the formation and reformation of new district Congress committees. He said formation of new district units are necessary due to the creation of eight new administrative districts and high population in several areas. MP Neeraj Dangi supported the proposal, which was unanimously passed by members of the extended executive and sent to AICC for approval.
Dotasra instructed that training camps be held across the state, starting in constituencies where Congress performed poorly in recent polls. He announced the appointment of 200 coordinators to energise booth, mandal and block Congress committees’ activities by conducting monthly meetings and reporting attendance to RPCC. He also directed the appointment of BLA in all constituencies within a month, with in-charge officials ensuring the submission of BLA lists to the state committee.
Dotasra said BJP is conspiring to create major fraud in panchayat and local body polls. Speaking to the media before the meeting, he responded to a veiled remark by CM Bhajan Lal Sharma about his absence in Assembly, saying, “I am fortunate the CM frequently remembers me.” Randhawa supported Dotasra’s decision not to attend Assembly, saying, “I stand with the state president’s decision.”
