Commission’s inspection: Allegations of sexual exploitation in Kanya Adivasi Ashram
A case of sexual abuse has come to light after inspection by the State Child Commission at the Government Tribal Girls Ashram in Jhabua. Jhabua Collector has suspended the accused watchman and action has also been ordered against Ashram Warden Indra Parmar.
The matter pertains to Kanjwani Government Tribal Girls Ashram of Jhabua. There are two separate ashrams (hostels) for girls from class 1st to 5th and from 6th to 12th. The girls of the ashram up to 12th class had earlier complained about the misbehavior by the watchman in the CM helpline.
After the State Child Commission received the complaint, Commission member Omkar Singh and Child Welfare Committee members visited on Friday. The girls complained that the warden used to leave the watchman at night or at any time. Chowkidar Mangilal used to beat minor girls by holding their collars.
Food was also not provided properly and money was also taken from the girls for bed sheets etc. Commission member Omkar Singh said in discussion with Bhaskar that the matter has been brought to the notice of Collector Jhabua on Saturday. He said that touching minor girls with wrong intentions is sexual exploitation which is a crime under POCSO.
Action will be taken under POCSO and other provisions
The watchman has been suspended, orders have been given to take action against the warden. The investigation has been handed over to the Assistant Commissioner (Tribal). If the allegations are found true, strictest action will be taken under POCSO and other provisions.
