‘Cheap publicity’: Congress slams BJP’s Navya Haridas for challenging Priyanka Gandhi’s victory from Wayanad
NEW DLEHI: Congress called the Navya Haridas’ challenge to MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s victory in the Wayanad by-election an act of “cheap publicity” and claimed that BJP candidate’s petition will not only be rejected but petition will also be imposed on her.
Navya Haridas, who lost the recent Wayanad by-election to Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking to nullify her victory.

After filing the petition, Haridas claimed that the Wayanad MP’s nomination papers were misleading and didn’t discolsed the assets.
“We have filed an election petition yesterday in the High Court against Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. It clearly states that the nomination papers were misleading and many important things were hidden from the nomination papers like the assets of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her family is missing in nomination papers. Earlier we had given a complaint to the election commission regarding this issue but it was not taken up as how we expected it to be…The High Court is closed for vacation and it will reopen after 5th January…”Haridas said.
Reacting to her petition, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, “Some people have the habit of doing cheap publicity. One such person is Navya Haridas…Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the elections with a margin of 4-5 lakhs.”
“I have full faith that her petition will not only be rejected but a penalty will be imposed on her,” he told ANI.
Another Congress MP Manickam Tagore said that even though BJP has the right to file a petition, he is confident that the truth is on their side.
“BJP people have the right to do all these things. They will complain against Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad. We all know that the truth is with our side …” he told ANI.

On November 13, the bypolls for the seat took place after Rahul Gandhi chose Rae Bareli over Wayanad for the Lok Sabha seat after winning both the constituency in the general election.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra secured the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 4,10,931 votes, defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI)and BJP’s Navya Haridas.
Speaking about Haridas’ petition, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that apart from his party, even the communist parties have questioned Gandhi’s victory.

“Not only BJP but her communist companions in Delhi are also questioning her victory (in Wayanad). They (communists) have said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was supported by organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami, Congress was behaving like the Muslim League and crossed all the limits of appeasement politics…Everything will be proved in the court…,” he told ANI.
