Cauvery Water row: Transgender community supports Karnataka Bandh
In Karnataka’s Mandya district, the transgender community has joined forces in support of the ‘Kannada Okkoota’s’ call for a statewide protest against the ongoing Cauvery water dispute.
The ‘Kannada Okkoota,’ representing a coalition of Kannada and farmers’ organizations, declared a Karnataka bandh to oppose the continued release of water to Tamil Nadu. The bandh found significant traction, especially in Bengaluru and southern regions of the state, causing disruptions to normal life.
This protest comes in response to a directive from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) instructing Karnataka to maintain the release of 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for an additional 15 days.
