Case against priest & two others for abusing man
Hyderabad: A case was registered against a priest and two in-charges of a temple by the Bollarum police for allegedly abusing a Dalit man and beating him up after he could not offer money as dakshina.
Quoting the victim, police said that the trio abused him in the name of his caste, tore his clothes and dragged him out of the temple. The trio then closed the temple gates on his face even as other devotees looked on, it was alleged. The man was accompanied by his four-year-old son at the time.
The Dalit man, 43, works as a security guard and is a resident of Lothukunta.
As per the complaint, the victim initially visited the temple located in his neighbourhood in the last week of Oct. After performing archana, the priest asked him for dakshina. When the man said he did not have money to offer, the priest asked him why he came to the temple without money.
On Saturday morning, he came to the same temple accompanied by his son, cops said. After praying, he took harathi and was about to leave when the priest asked him to offer dakshina, but the victim said that he just came to pray. In response, the priest questioned why he came to the temple without money and allegedly abused him and pushed him away.
Meanwhile, two in-charges rushed to them and picked up an argument with the victim. They then pounced on the victim, allegedly passing casteist slurs, said cops.
