Bihar woman attempts suicide after husband marries transgender
ARA: A 19-year-old pregnant woman allegedly consumed poison to end her life after she came to know that her husband had married a transgender in Patna. The woman, identified as Rani Devi, has been admitted to Sadar hospital Ara for treatment.
The incident took place at Bhopatpur village under Gidha outpost of Koilwar police station in Bhojpur district on Tuesday.
According to police, Madhu Gupta of Kanali village under Shahpur police station area, married a transgender, who had saved his life after an accident in Patna. He refused to live with his wife Rani. “Till now, we have not received any complaint regarding this incident. Action will be taken as per the law on receiving any complaint,” SHO of Gidha OP, Prabhat Kumar told this newspaper on Wednesday.
“My husband does not like me. He has married a ‘kinner’ and lives with him in Patna. He neither comes home nor sends money for the household expenses. ,” Rani said.
‘Transgender saved my life’
Rani, who is four-month pregnant, told mediapersons at the Ara Sadar Hospital, “My husband often tells me that he has nothing to do with me. He doesn’t care whether I live or die. So after a quarrel with him last night, I consumed poison.”
On the other hand, Madhu told reporters that he met with an accident a few months back when he used to drive a bus in Patna. A transgender saved his life and even spent Rs90,000 on his treatment, he said. “When I recovered and tried to return his money, the transgender said he does not want the money back; rather he wants to spend his life with me. So I married him to pay back his kindness and help,” he added.
