On the day of Ambedkar Jayanti, people of two castes came face to face over the installation of his statue in Danapur, Patna, the capital of Bihar. During this time, a Dalit youth died in the firing, while three others were injured. According to Hindustan, the incident took place in Maqsoodpur village at 11:00 pm on Wednesday night. The name of the deceased is Vikram Kumar Ram. Police force is deployed in the village after the incident. Currently, interrogation is going on with 5 people in custody.
What is the whole matter?
A temple was being built in the village on April 14, the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. During this time, lights were being cut off from the transformer again and again.
There was a lot of controversy when people celebrating the birth anniversary protested, after which the matter calmed down. On Wednesday, April 17, the day of Ram Navami, there was another dispute between the two parties in the afternoon. During this period, there was a lot of lathicharge and stone pelting. After this, electricity was cut at 11:00 pm and firing was done.
Why were people of other castes protesting?
Vikram was injured in the firing, who died in the hospital. He worked in Gujarat and had come to the village on leave on April 5.
Police officer of Shahpur police station says that the people of the village were making a platform for installing the idol on the roadside, for which there was opposition from the Yadav side of the village. Yadav was protesting calling it encroachment on government land. Police are conducting raids in the case.
