Aligarh: Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) president and newly elected MP from Nagina Lok Sabha constituency Chandrashekhar Azad on Tuesday warned that if the atrocities being allegedly committed against Dalits and weaker sections in Uttar Pradesh are not stopped, then all the deprived sections of the society will hold a state-wide agitation. Addressing reporters after participating in a protest against the recent murder of a Dalit youth in Aligarh, Azad said that the abduction and murder of Dalit youth Gaurav (22) on June 1 was a well-planned incident.
He said that some policemen investigating the incident have been negligent in this case and they should be punished. Azad alleged, “If the police had acted immediately after Gaurav’s abduction, he would still be alive.” He demanded a “speedy investigation” into the entire episode.
Azad demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for the victim’s family and a government job for one of the family members. He said his party would not sit idle after merely staging dharnas and demonstrations but would enter the mainstream electoral politics of Uttar Pradesh. He said his party would field its candidates in the upcoming by-elections in the state, including the by-election to the Khair assembly seat in the district.
