After Haryana loss, Rahul urges Maha Cong leaders to plan well
Pune: Congress member Rahul Gandhi on Monday advised party leaders in poll-bound Maharashtra not to become complacent, assuming an easy win for the MVA in a meeting with senior members of Maharashtra Congress in Delhi on Monday.
The meeting was attended by the state in-charge for Congress Ramesh Chennithala, state party president Nana Patole, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, former minister Balasaheb Thorat, and other senior members.
Speaking to TOI after the meeting, Patole said, “The meeting was to plan the party’s strategy for Maharashtra polls. In the review of the party’s preparedness, members expressed confidence that Congress’s performance will be good in the assembly poll and MVA will form govt.”
Against the backdrop of the Lok Sabha poll, Congress was hoping to win the Haryana assembly poll, but it lost. The party now aims to avoid a Haryana-like outcome in the assembly poll in Maharashtra, and therefore, the central leadership of the party called a meeting with the state leaders to revise the strategy.
“There was no de-briefing about Maharashtra after the Lok Sabha result. After the Haryana poll result, the party does not want to take any chances in Maharashtra. During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi advised the state Congress not to be complacent and not take the LS result for granted,” a senior Congress member told TOI.
The poll strategy review looked into the impact of Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, the effect of quota agitations, and the party’s ‘Save Constitution’ campaign, he added.
