New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has once again reiterated the demand for caste census. He has called it a necessary step to bring out the truth of inequality and discrimination. Rahul Gandhi said this in a video of his conversation with former UGC chairman and educationist Sukhdev Thorat. In response, the BJP has attacked the Congress. The BJP says that the Congress has an anti-Dalit mindset.

Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that he had a detailed discussion with Professor Thorat. Thorat is a well-known academician, economist, expert on Dalit issues and a member of the Study Committee on Caste Census in Telangana. He spoke on the Mahad Satyagraha and the ongoing struggle of Dalits for access to administration, education, bureaucracy and resources.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi posted on X, saying, ‘The fight for share that started 98 years ago continues. On 20 March 1927, Babasaheb Ambedkar directly challenged caste discrimination through the Mahad Satyagraha. It was not just a fight for the right to water, but a fight for equality and respect. Caste census is an important step towards bringing out the truth of this inequality, while its opponents do not want to let this truth come out. Babasaheb’s dream is still incomplete. His fight is not just of the past, it is also a fight of today — we will fight it with all our might.’

BJP hits back at Rahul Gandhi

BJP has hit back at this statement of Rahul Gandhi. BJP leader CR. Kesavan told PTI that “Rahul Gandhi’s shocking statement on merit clearly exposes the dynastic and feudal mindset of the Congress. The dynastic Congress has always historically abused and insulted the meritorious leaders of SC, ST and OBC communities who have progressed in public life through their hard work and commitment.” Kesavan further said that the Congress party has always had an ‘anti-Dalit’ mindset and the Congress party always tries to crush merit.
