TW Newsdesk : A nine-year-old Dalit boy’s death in Rajasthan after his teacher assaulted him for drinking water from a source allegedly not meant to be used by him has resultedinto public outrage and the opposition BJP’s attacks on the ruling Congress. The incident also denotes the Ashok Gehlot government is suffering the heat from within its ranks.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar remembered that her father, BabuJagjivan Ram (a Dalit who later became India’s deputy prime minister), was also prevented from drinking water not meant to be used by people from his community some 100 years back and he somehow rescued his life. “Even after 75 long years of Independence, the caste system remains our greatest enemy and blot that must be eradicated,” she has stated on Twitter and in TV interviews.
