Pa. Ranjith Slams Tamil Nadu Government Over Dalit Atrocities

New Delhi— Tamil filmmaker Pa. Ranjith has strongly criticized the M.K. Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government for its failure to curb caste-based atrocities in the state. He questioned whether the government would at least acknowledge such incidents occurring under its governance.
Reacting to a video from Chief Minister Stalin’s ‘Ungalil Oruvan’ (One Among You) series on social media platform X, Ranjith alleged that Tamil Nadu continues to witness some of the most heinous caste-related crimes without effective intervention. He pointed out that violent attacks against Dalits have taken place even in recent times and asked, “If not stop them, would the state government at least acknowledge that such caste atrocities are happening in Tamil Nadu?”
Ranjith also criticized the state’s SC/ST Welfare Minister and representatives from reserved constituencies, stating that while they appear to be preoccupied, he is willing to submit a report detailing recent caste-based atrocities in Tamil Nadu.
The filmmaker, known for highlighting caste oppression in his movies, intensified his criticism following the murder of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) state leader Armstrong, who was brutally hacked to death near his residence in Chennai.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Stalin addressed public queries in the latest episode of ‘Ungalil Oruvan’ released on Saturday. He responded to various issues, including internal disagreements within the DMK-led alliance and criticisms from the opposition AIADMK. Notably, DMK’s key allies, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], have demanded a CBI probe into the Vengaivayal caste atrocities case, where human faeces were allegedly mixed into an overhead water tank in the Pudukottai district.
