Tension gripped the Government General Hospital in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore after the murder of Hasini, a well-known transgender community leader, late Tuesday night. The victim was reportedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Tapathopu, Kodavaluru mandal. Her body was brought to the GGH mortuary, where the incident sparked widespread outrage.
In response, a large group of transgender individuals gathered at the hospital, including members from Nellore, Tamil Nadu, Tirupati, Vijayawada, and other regions. Demonstrators staged a protest at the mortuary, demanding swift justice for Hasini. The growing crowd prompted the authorities to set up heavy police barricades and deploy additional forces to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
Visuals from the hospital show the crowd mourning the loss of the transgender leader, demanding justice for the murder.
Local officials have expressed concern about the increasingly volatile situation. Police have confirmed that the murder may be linked to an ongoing power struggle between rival transgender factions. Initial investigations have reportedly led to potential suspects, and the
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has assured the community that arrests will be made shortly.
As authorities work to manage the unrest, plans are being made to transport Hasini’s body to her hometown of Mangalam, Tirupati, for final rites.
