BJP volunteer, family booked for assaulting Dalit family
Jabalpur: A BJP volunteer and his family members were booked after a video purportedly showing them thrashing people belonging to scheduled caste in Jabalpur on Monday night went viral on social media. Earlier, a case was registered against the Dalit family on a complaint of the BJP volunteer.
A dispute broke out when the BJP volunteer objected to the scheduled caste family constructing a bathroom outside their house. During the conflict, a video of a scheduled caste family members being beaten with shoes and sandals went viral on social media. Following the video’s circulation, police registered a case late at night against the accused BJP leader and his parents.
Anil Jharia and Varsha Jharia, residents of Ramnagar Shah Nala, alleged that their family was living on leased land for three decades. They were constructing a bathroom outside their house. BJP booth president Amit Dwivedi, along with his parents and associates, opposed this and came to their house, attempting to put their children in vehicles.
When opposed, they started assaulting them. During this, the BJP worker, his mother, and others verbally abused them, hit them with shoes, and dragged a woman by her hair on the road.
After the incident, the BJP worker went to Tilwara police station and made a complaint. Based on it, police registered a case against the members of the scheduled caste. Later, the other family approached the SP office seeking justice with the video of the incident. Late at night, Tilwara police registered an FIR against the BJP leader and his parents.
Tilwara police station in charge Brijesh Mishra said a case was registered against the accused under the SC/ST Act. The report of the incident was filed by the victim’s brother, who stated that theaccused threatened to kill his brother, prompting him to move to a relative’s house with his family.
