Rahul Gandhi to attend caste census meeting in Hyderabad today
HYDERABAD: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will arrive in the city on Tuesday evening to attend a meeting regarding the door-to-door caste census scheduled to begin on Wednesday (Nov 6) statewide. He will land at Begumpet Airport and proceed directly to the Gandhi Ideology Centre in Bowenpally.
The meeting at the Gandhi Ideology Centre will include chief minister Revanth Reddy, deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers, AICC leaders, and other senior party figures.
The main objective is to gather insights from experts, BC leaders, civil society representatives, and caste associations on the caste survey and its enhancement.
The ruling party aims to send a clear message that Rahul’s promise of a BC caste census is being fulfilled. Congress leaders assert that his presence at the meeting will reinforce the message that the party delivers on its commitments.
Although the ruling party initially planned a large public meeting and invited Rahul, he could not participate due to commitments in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
However, he agreed to attend the BC caste census meeting with experts on November 5. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud noted that they also invited AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, whose schedule for Hyderabad is still pending.
BC Welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with TPCC chief and senior party leaders, held a preparatory meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, directing party members to ensure success of the event.
BC Welfare Association national president Jajula Srinivas Goud and several other BC leaders welcomed Rahul’s participation, expressing that it would boost BC confidence in the completion of the caste survey. Jajula also warned against any attempts to obstruct the survey’s smooth conduct.
