Rahul Gandhi offers prayers at Valmiki temple in Delhi
NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited the Valmiki temple on Mandir Marg on Thursday to offer prayers on Valmiki Jayanti. Saint Valmiki, author of the Hindu epic Ramayana, is highly respected, especially among Dalits.
Gandhi shared his experience on Facebook in a post written in Hindi, extending his best wishes on the birth anniversary of Maharshi Valmiki. “This morning, on this auspicious occasion, I visited the Valmiki temple in Delhi. Mahatma Gandhi ji spent a lot of time with the Valmiki community in this complex. I stayed at Bapu Niwas for some time and got inspiration,” he wrote.
He honored Maharshi Valmiki by saying, “Salutations to the great Maharshi Valmiki ji who showed humanity the path of truth, justice and harmony filled with love and compassion.”
Photos of Gandhi praying at the temple were shared on Congress’s social media. He also visited a room where Mahatma Gandhi had lived for over 200 days.
Later, Gandhi met with a delegation from the Valmiki community at 10 Janpath and interacted with them.
