Rahul stops convoy for sugarcane growers
Ambala: Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi stopped his convoy to meet farmers and heard their grievances on Saha-Mullana road in Ambala district after addressing a public gathering in Naraingarh on Monday.
The farmers under the banner of “Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti”, Haryana, handed over a memorandum of demands to Rahul seeking his support in getting released the pending sugarcane payment of Rs 22.70 crore of the 2023-24 season from Naraingarh sugar mill at Banondi village in Shahzadpur area of the district. The farmers called for a permanent solution to the problem of release of payment. They said that the Narendra Modi govt has since 2019 kept the price of sugarcane at Rs 3,300 per quintal and Rs 6,200 of ethanol from it. Rahul enquired about the operational and ownership status of the sugar mill, assuring to resolve the issue.
