JSR transgenders seek equal rights as Pride Month ends
Jamshedpur: As the Pride Month concluded on Sunday, transgenders in Jamshedpur demanded equal rights in spheres of education, healthcare and employment.
Various organisations taking part in pride walks share the cause they have been fighting for. One of the pride walks organised by Jamshedpur Queer Circle started from Sakchi Super Centre to Jubilee Park, spreading awareness about the causes that these organisations are fighting for.
“We are fighting for three basic things equality in employment, reservation in education and healthcare that caters to the sexual and reproductive needs which are different from others,” said Jamshedpur Queer Circle founder Souvik Saha.
The pride walk was participated by around 300 LGBTQ rights activists, spreading awareness on reservation and opportunities in educational system and institutes.
Activists aim to also demand govt to create safer inclusive spaces, proper policies and counsellors in schools and institutes.
“On Friday, we organised a session on LGBTQ rights at a city college. First, people will have to be aware about the issues that the community is facing. Most of the youth are not aware about the same. The pride walk is one of the strongest ways to spread the message,” said LGBTQ rights activist Naveen Kumar.
Utthan which works for the rights of LGBT community marked the month by distributing saplings to passers by in Bistupur.
