6 in Haridwar held for rape, murder of 13yo Dalit girl; BJP functionary absconding
Haridwar: Days after a 13-year-old girl, a Dalit, was brutally gang-raped and killed in Haridwar, police on Thursday arrested six persons, including a close aide of “now-expelled” senior functionary of the ruling party and also a member of state OBC commission Aditya Raj Saini, and established the shocking sequence of events leading to the crime against the minor.
Police said that on the night of June 23, the girl went to meet her male friend when he along with three of his aides — all aged 19-20 years — allegedly raped her and threatened her to remain silent. The girl thereafter narrated her ordeal to her neighbour Amit Saini, the aide of Aditya Raj Saini.
Amit, instead of helping her, also allegedly raped her and when she resisted, mercilessly thrashed her due to which she suffered head injuries. His parents Madanpal Saini and Shashi Devi and sister Rubi Saini also beat her, and allegedly helped him to kill the minor. Soon after, Amit allegedly dumped the critically-injured girl on Haridwar-Delhi highway where she was run over by a vehicle.
