‘I am a Dalit woman, how can my child not be a Dalit’, Rohith Vemula’s mother told the police closure report as ‘lie’
Addressing a press conference at the University of Hyderabad, Radhika Vemula alleged that the police took statements of some BJP leaders and closed the case with a ‘false report’. Radhika said, ‘How they closed it and what happened, we don’t know. How can the police ask about caste? I am a Dalit woman. How can my child not be a Dalit?
Radhika Vemula, mother of late Hyderabad University student Rohit Vemula, on Saturday said the Telangana Police closure report which stated that her son was not a Dalit was ‘false’. Hyderabad University’s PhD scholar Rohit Vemula committed suicide in January 2016. The police have given a clean chit to the former vice chancellor of the university and some BJP leaders in the case.
Rohit stood second in school in class 10 and had good marks. Rohit’s mother met Telangana CM. Rohit’s mother said that she met Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy who has assured her that the case will be reopened soon. Will be opened. Telangana Police on Friday said it will investigate further into the death of student Rohith Vemula as some doubts have been raised over the closure report filed by the police in the court on behalf of the deceased’s mother and some others.
